Guernsey No. 35

Chandler who was born in Bright, played the solitary game for the Blues in 1940, and was lucky enough to kick a goal in that game. He wore the #35 jumper.

By running out in Navy Blue, Dick was able to increase his VFL games tally from 2 to 3. Interestingly, and somewhat astonishingly, Chandler actually played 2 games for Hawthorn back in 1931 - and for some reason didn't return to the league until 1940. Dick was recruited from State Savings Bank. He has kicked more than 1,000 goals for the Bank team in the amateurs.

Chandler passed away on the 6th June, 1969 aged 59.

Footnote

The Argus September 21 1938, p24.
"An interesting appearance was that of Clinton Chandler who has been the leading forward for the State Savings Bank for several years. He is a nephew of the secretary Newton Chandler and a brother of Bert Chandler, the former Hawthorn and Melbourne player who heads the goal kicking list in the West Australian League this year with more than 100 goals.
He is good enough to take his place in the team on Saturday, but it would be asking too much of a player to come into a grand final match and immediately become part of the machine. Chandler, who is expected to be a regular player, is training for a match to be played in a fortnight."
