Victorian Football Association
Career: 1881-1884
H. F. Crawford recruited from Hawthorn.
New recruit in 1881 and did well.
(Centenary Souvenir of Carlton Football Club p15)
H. Crawford was mentioned as giving great service to the Dark Blues in 1881.
(The Carlton Story, H.Buggy and H.Bell p51)
The above photo was taken on Carlton's visit to Adelaide in 1881.
There is some confusion as to who is pictured in the photo. The name given on the photograph only says "Crawford."
Blueseum has two Crawfords in this era R. Crawford and H. F. Crawford.
H. Crawford is named in one newspaper as being one of the touring party.
But, perhaps R. Crawford is misnamed and there is only one player with that surname.
1881 His inclusion in the ranks was of paramount importance, a tower of strength back, in which position, his dashing yet cool and effective play made him one of the most reliable and valuable players.
(The Footballer 1881. p23)
Relation of R. Crawford or the same player?
1884 June 04 Wednesday
Reported in the Sportsman that Crawford is leaving the Blues and heading for Adelaide on Friday 13.
"This is much to be regretted, as when in form he is one of the best back players in the colony, and withal a jolly good fellow, who will be much missed by his many associates."
