Game Review

This was Carlton's lowest score against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval for 30 years.

Vic Garra broke his collar-bone in the last quarter becoming the fourth Blues' full forward to be seriously injured this season. The others are O'Brien, Ellis, and Crowe.

South were the better team in the second half and were too quick for the Blues, who fiddled with short passing when long kicks were the order of the day, especially when kicking with the wind.

Carlton Coach Jim Francis

"Up until half-time, we looked to have a show, but after the break we had no counter to South's pace and play-on style of play. Their big men were exceptionally effective in the second half. South got the run of the ball all day and our chaps seemed to be always on the wrong leg."
