Game Review

Twice during the year – including just the previous week - Melbourne had scored upset wins over the Blues. Therefore, the Redlegs must have approached this match with plenty of confidence. But Carlton coach Jack Worrall worked his team hard on the track between games, and left all players in no doubt that finals places would only go to those who earned them.

As a consequence, Melbourne were overwhelmed by a Carlton side that had regained all the sizzle and pop it had displayed during the first half of the season. Combining superbly and dominant all over the ground, the Blues never gave the home side a sniff and won easing down by six goals. Young forward Matt Crowe kicked three majors in his second game, while Mick Grace was excellent in a return to his best at centre half-forward.

With one Sectional match down and two to go, the Navy Blues were third on the ladder with a percentage of 140.4.
