Game Review
The Blues never got started in this stunning form reversal against the Cats. Geelong, led by future Blue Michael Mansfield, dominated in midfield, keeping form Blues Williams and Brown away from the ball, and continued their great end-of-season form. The game may have started the theory behind the Melbourne / Geelong finals victories over Carlton; suppress Williams in the middle and you have a chance. Teams began to rotate many players on and off Williams with a view to constantly tackling and pressuring our champion centreman. Sometimes it worked.
Despite coming down with chicken pox in the hours before the game, skipper Stephen Kernahan took his place in the line-up. However, was once again held largely ineffective, by his nemesis at the time, Stephen O'Reilly.
