Game Review
A grim, hard fought match by two teams that "rely on power, strength and pace, rather then tactics and system, and the game was always of a strenuous, tearing and rushing description." The Blues were hampered by both Valentine and Wells being injured. Valentine who was injured early in the game spent most the match restricted to the forward pocket, and when Wells who was injured in the second term returned to the field in last quarter, he was confined to the back pocket. The visitors got on top during the second quarter and led by 16 points at half time, a margin the Dark Blues could not overcome..At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 116.7.

City Councillors Entertained
City councillors including the Lord Mayor were guests of the club at half time. Carlton are after an extension to their area to construct a bowling green and tennis courts, but as the club has 10 acres there is little hope of their wish being granted. The guests were greeted by Cr. Jack Gardiner and Alex McCracken president of the V.F.L. The Leader; "At the half time interval various toasts and speeches were delivered by the visiting councillors, and although the adjournment was all too long for the ordinary spectator, it proved too short for the visiting aldermen anxious to make their speeches." "The various improvements at the reserve were eulogised, and undoubtedly the Carlton people have done good work in transforming a prairie waste into a charming and well appointed enclosure in such a short space of time."Late Starting Times
The Leader (May 30) wrote about the complaints from the press about the late starting time for League matches. Games are scheduled to start at 3pm sharp, but this Carlton vs Fitzroy match did not start until 3.03pm and the quarter time break was 5.5 minutes in duration. Half time was supposed to 15 minutes, but on this occasion was 20.5 minutes and the three quarter time break ran to 7 minutes. The game ended at 5.16pm instead of 5pm.The V.F.A. does not have this problem as they commence their matches before 3pm.
