Game Review
In a shock result, last-placed Melbourne kept Carlton scoreless in the final term of this King's Birthday holiday match at the MCG, and beat the Blues by 23 points. The Fuchsias were rapidly becoming Carlton's bogey team. This second loss for the year dropped the Blues to fourth on the ladder behind Fitzroy, South Melbourne and Collingwood. However, the Magpies did the Blues a favour by beating Essendon, and widening the gap between Carlton and the fifth-placed Same Old to eight points.
