Game Review
This bottom of the ladder clash saw Carlton- 15th, with one win- versus the Bulldogs- last and yet to record a win in 2002, though they did have a superior percentage. Even though Carlton had a horrible run of injuries in Round 5 and had lost 3 players, surely the Blues would not allow the Bulldogs their first win of the season and the possibility of sinking to the bottom of the ladder.Carlton started well but then the Dogs steamed ahead with Darcy towelling up McKernan (who was getting booed by Carlton supporters) and the Dogs brilliant onballers West, Smith, and Brown were on top. Still the Blues didn't give up with Lance Whitnall (in his first game up forward) booting 4 goals 3 from 23 possessions and taking 14 marks. Craig Bradley had 25 possessions, Ang Christou 24 and Brett Ratten 22. Unfortunately Carlton wasted opportunities and appeared to have lost confidence. The kicking for goal was awful in the last quarter- 1 goal 7 was never going to allow the Blues to win when the Bulldogs managed 3 goals 1.
The loss left Carlton on the bottom of the ladder.
