Game Review

Carlton were competitive in the first half and were 2 points up at half time. But the in form Magpies took complete control of the game after that point, kicking 16 goals to 4 to win by 72 points.

Even Pies coach Mick Malthouse praised Lance Whitnall's 17-mark, 26-possession effort and declared him best-on-ground. For the first 3 quarters he controlled Anthony Rocca but had to be switched forward in the last quarter. Pagan again was unsure where he best served the team. "We need him forward, we need him back," Pagan said.

Andrew Walker kept Nathan Buckley under control, while Bret Thornton did a good job on Tarrant and Andrew Carrazzo kept the in form Ben Johnson quiet. Nick Stevens, Heath Scotland and Ryan Houlihan won a lot of the ball through the midfield.
