Game Review
The debut of 2 players who did not have long careers seems to indicate that Carlton had little respect for the Barassi coached Demons. The Demons hung on as late as midway through the last quarter, but were finished off by a more complete Carlton unit.Blue Greg Sharp highlighted this match as one he recalled, many years later, when contacted by the Blueseum given his key match-up on Dee Robert Flower.
At the MCG, a sluggish Carlton could have been grateful for the performance of Alex Marcou, whose 22 kicks and six handballs enabled the Blues to comfortably beat Melbourne in the finish. - Inside Football Player of the Year.
Carlton defeated Melbourne by 40 points at the MCG, Bruce Doull and Alex Marcou were the Blues best and Graham Gaunt did well for the Demons. - Football Record.
