Game Review

Wingman Ray Byrne was the major factor in Carlton's shock three point win over North Melbourne. Byrne's handpassing was spectacular against star opponent Keith Greig, and he picked up 17 kicks as well. David McKay's return to senior side was a handy addition to the struggling Blues which helped to bolster their aerial strengths. - Inside Football Player of the Year.

Carlton shocked North Melbourne with their early desire, better field kicking and better use of the wind for the first three quarters, but North fought back strongly, with far more accuracy than the Blues to only go down by three points. The Blues should have built up an unassailable lead by half time, with the opportunities they had, but were not impressive on the forward line. North did however hold the Blues down to their lowest winning score on matches since 1968 (at Moorabbin). - Football Record.

Carlton defeated North Melbourne by three points in a low-scoring clash at Princes Park. The Blues were the more impressive team but wasted opportunities on the forward line. - Football Record.
