Game Review

Playing on their Glenferrie mud heap the Hawks skipped away to an early lead. The Blues missed chances early on, which would prove very costly.
This third narrow loss in four matches was doubly-costly for Carlton. Bad kicking is bad football, and despite having four more scoring shots than Hawthorn, the Blues were beaten by six points at Glenferrie. The Hawks' rugged full-forward John Peck was the difference between the teams, and kicked six goals.

Meanwhile, at Windy Hill, St Kilda caused a huge upset by beating ladder-leaders Essendon, and the Saints tipped the faltering Blues out of the top four.
