Steven Potter was a crafty rover who was very dangerous around goal, he played U/19's grade football for Carlton from 1984 to 1985.

1984: - In the 1984 season Steve Potter scored 11 goals in 5 games between Round 3 to Round 7 (scoring at least a goal in each game) and named in the best player 3 times. He scored 5 games against Melbourne in Round 7 (also in the best players) and 3 goals against Collingwood in Round 5 (also in the best players), Potter then suffered a serious injury whereby he suffered a Pott's fracture to his ankle whereby a complex of ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle is torn by varying degrees, this put him out of action for 9 months.

1985: In the 1985 season Steve Potter scored 24 goals in 10 games and was also listed in the best players in the 1st semi-final against Hawthorn. He scored 5 goals twice and also named in the best players in these games in Round 15 against Geelong and Round 18 against Sydney. He scored 3 goals twice in Round 7 against Sydney and Round 10 against Hawthorn and 2 goals in Round 11 against Collingwood and 2 goals against Fitzroy in the Elimination win (when the Football Record had him as Shane Potter, but was corrected the next week against Hawthorn).

In 1983 Steven Potter also played in an U/17's match for the Blues against an U/17's invitational team from the Blues recruiting zone in Bendigo.

Potter was recruited from Alphington FC even though the footy records had him listed as being recruited from Brunswick City.

He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.

After he departed ways with Carlton he headed to local VFA team Brunswick where he became a valuable running, goalkicker for the Magpies. He would play with them for the next five seasons and like he did at Carlton thirds he almost averaged two goals a game. He at a brief stint at rival VFA club Coburg in 1991.

Steven Potter attended University High School in Parkville which was a source for many Brunswick footballers such as Shane Gibson, Darren Bickley, Dale McBean, Mick Dyamond, Darren Edwards etc.

Note; Steven Potter may have had a younger brother Geoffrey (DOB 27 April, 1968) also from Brunswick City who played in the Carlton Under 19's in No.12 during the 1986 & 1987 seasons.
