1876 R. Knowles was playing with Carlton Imperial.
The Footballer 1876 (p35) had this to say about him;
"Plays up hard on the forward wings, is very quick, and a good kick either foot."

1877 A good back player, marks and kicks well.

1879 October 4
Knowles was named in the Second Twenty 21 man squad that played the Geelong Juniors at Geelong.

1879 Reserves; Fine follower, runs and dodges well.

1880 Captain of the Reserves/Second Twenty.
Hard working player, handles his team well.
(The Footballer. 1880. p24)

Relation of T. Knowles?

The 1876 edition of The Footballer mentions that Knowles was a good player for Carlton's Second Twenty that year.
