Game Review
The Navy Blues never shifted out of second gear as they accounted for North Melbourne by an even five goals at Arden Street, and remained undefeated since round 6.Meanwhile, at Punt Road, Richmond came within a couple of points of knocking over Essendon, while Melbourne regained their place in the top four with a win over Footscray at the Western Oval. After this round, the top four teams were Essendon, Carlton, Geelong and Melbourne. Footscray were next, one win and 15 percentage points adrift.
Ruckman John Nicholls and Graham Donaldson were the inspiration that led the Blues to victory against North. Rover Peter Falconer, with 4 goals, played one of his best games, as did Bruce McMaster-Smith on the wing. Many North attacks were repulsed by capable defenders Wes Lofts and Graeme Anderson on the half-back line. - Football Record.
