Saturday's Herald (p3) said Paddy O'Brien did not take the field due him suffering from muscular rheumatism. Sharp, Clowe, Crone and Clover took the place of McLatchie, Truman, Wittman and McGregor.The Blues went down by 29 points against a very strong Richmond team. This was the Tiger's first home win against Carlton since entering the V.F.L. in 1908.
After losing star centreman Rod McGregor to injury-enforced retirement the previous week the Blues unveiled a potential superstar in debutant centre half forward Horrie Clover.
The record crowd broke down the fence.
