Much like fellow Bluebagger Billy Spears, Schunke would play the solitary game for Carlton in his career. He played this game in Season 1901. In 1902 Schunke was granted a permit to Carlton Juniors from Carlton.

Charles Henry Schunke was born at Carlton in 1879 and died in Kew on August 20, 1924 aged 45. He was recruited from Fitzroy Crescent and had previously played for the Carlton Imperials and Phoenix Football Clubs.

His younger brother by 8 years Eddie (Edwin James) was made a life member of the Carlton Football Club in 1943 for his services on the Carlton Recreation Ground Management Committee Club, that managed Princes Park (this was replaced by the Carlton Cricket and Football Social Club in the 1960’s). He was one of the Carlton Cricket Club representatives on that committee and was still a vice president of the cricket club in 1963 and died in 1974 aged 87.

1909 April 22, Carlton played a combined V.J.F.A. in a practice match at Prince Park, a player name Schunke from Carlton Juniors played for the combine. The Age April 26 said Schunke a half forward, will be playing for Melbourne this season. A relation of Charlie?

Carlton reserves team, Carlton District, had one or two Schunke/s playing during the 1910 - 18 era.
