Darcy Connor Lear played 12 successive senior matches for the Carlton Football Club in 1917, after coming down from Bendigo to study medicine at Melbourne University. A capable defender, he made his debut in a drawn game against Fitzroy in round one, and kicked his only career goal the following week against Collingwood at Princes Park.

In late July, Lear’s second match against the Magpies was also his last for the Blues. Once again, Carlton routed their fiercest rivals by five goals at Princes Park, and gave Darcy a memorable send-off. He then plunged into his studies, graduated, and by 1935 had opened a general practice in Plenty Road, Preston.

When World War II began in 1939, Dr Lear (V146330) enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Corps, and rose to the rank of Captain during his four years in uniform.

Lear's original club was Bendigo District.

Darcy's son Jack Lear played Reserves in 1950.

The Horsham Times 18 March 1952, reported that Carlton had signed Dr. Darcy Lear's son David Lear, who had captained the Longerenong premiership team last season.
