1871 The Argus has G. Atkinson named in the Carlton squad of 20, plus emegencies, to play Geelong on the Argyle Street ground Geelong Saturday 25th. May.
No mention of his name in match reports, presumed to have played.

1871 June 10
George was named the Carlton squad of 20 to play Melbourne on the Melbourne Football Ground (The gravel patch)
The match was called off due to the weather.
George Atkinson does not appear in any Carlton squads again. Looks like he returned to Albert Park.

The was an Atkinson playiing for Albert Park v Collingwood at Collingwood's ground in North Fitzroy
