Peter Bubner was drafted from Central Districts, South Australia, by the Blues with Pick 12 of the 1987 National Draft. Bubner would never make the journey to the Club and did not play a game for the Blues.
Bubner who was born on the 12th May 1961 played 199 games for Central Districts and is a Life Member of that club. Bubner won the Central Districts B&F in '83, and stayed in SA (after getting drafted) largely as a result of the player retention scheme in place at the time. The retention scheme was designed to stop SANFL players going to the AFL. To qualify a player had to have played 6 seasons, 120 games and 4 state games, or if they were deemed to be a 'high priority' they need only 3 years, 50 games and 1 state game. Typically being drafted was enough for a player to move into the 'high priority' classification.
Bubner moved to Sturt for a year or two after Central moved him on.
Bubner is remembered for his contributions as a tallish midfielder and occasional defender in Victoria v SA State of Origin matches
