Recruited from University High School Old Boys via Hawthorn, Rodney Hanton played reserve grade football for Carlton from 1971 to 1972.
He did not manage a senior game for Carlton, and in 1973 crossed to Brunswick in the VFA.
Hanton was an excellent contributor for the Wicks throughout that season's 2nd Division final series, kicking six goals in a big Semi Final win over Camberwell. His team, however, fell to Caulfield by 22 points in the Grand Final.
