Game Review

The Argus led with the headline "Too Many Guns" to describe Essendon's mauling of Carlton in this round, stating that "Carlton are in the midst of a hot series of matches on their own ground, for, having got through with South Melbourne and Essendon, they meet Geelong next Saturday. Essendon undoubtedly carried too many guns for the dark blues, though the losing team showed a capacity for turning their opportunities to good account that would have served them well with the strength more evenly balanced. Like St. Kilda, they can be credited at least with finishing pluckily under discouraging conditions for at several stages in the second half they fairly held their own. All this may be allowed without disparaging Essendon's all-round excellence".

As in Round 8, Carlton again failed to score during the first and third quarters. This time our centre half-back in Ernie Walton scored a goal, as did our full-forward Sam Chapman.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 47.8.
