The Blues came out fiercely against the reigning premiers Brisbane. And for the first half Carlton might have held a handy lead if they had kicked straight. However it was close with the Lions and Blues trading goals with Headland being a suprise spearhead for Brisbane.

In the final quarter the Lions broke free and kicked 5 in a row. Carlton kicked the last four but it wasn't enough to stop the Blues' ten game losing streak.

Best for the Blues were: B.Ratten, J.Murphy, J.Doering, L.Whitnall, A.Hickmott, M.Lappin.
