Game Review

Carlton's vice-captain Serge Silvagni matched his personal best when he kicked six goals in this big win by the Blues over South Melbourne at Princes Park. Ruckman Maurie Sankey added another four, as Carlton led at every change to win by almost ten goals - giving the struggling Blues a much needed percentage boost.

Meanwhile, the top four teams were far from decided. Essendon's loss to Melbourne saw Hawthorn assume top spot, ahead of Geelong, Essendon and Melbourne. Carlton was sixth, still four points and lots of percentage away from a finals berth.
