Game Review
Carlton earned their 8th win of the year in Round 17 by defeating South Melbourne by 31 points.After the win, Carlton jumped up to 7th place with a percentage of 98.1
Reporting on this match Jack Cannon said of the Blues;
''Evidence of Carlton's bright future was made public at South Melbourne, where the Blues turned on a full treatment of polished, spectacular football."

South Melbourne was well in the game before half time where their defence lead by Freddy Goldsmith repelled many of Carlton's attacking moves. Perc Bentley made crucial moves, Laurie Kerr went to the centre where he outplayed his opponent Primmer and also provided drive into forward line. Leon Berner was moved from wing to half forward where he "gave the attack added sting with his fine position play and neat passing."
Noel O'Brien who was having an off day was used as a decoy full forward and took South's champion full back Goldsmith up the ground and away from the goals which allowed "sensational new player" Graham Donaldson to play full forward and score 3 goals.

Monday August 15, from The Argus;"New League rule allowing one trainer from each team to carry messages on to the ground is most effective. It worked well on Saturday at Fitzroy, and did not cause any worry to umpires. Everone is glad to have the position legalised at last."
