Game Review
Another debutante in Rupe Bradley impressed up forward, as Carlton moved into the top four with this 33-point win over Geelong at Princes Park. However, the Blues' position was shaky because their percentage (72.3) was poor following the round 1 thrashing at the hands of Fitzroy. The Blues' side contained three former Geelong players, Joe McShane, Henry McShane and Jim Flynn.
Carlton kicked with the wind in the first quarter. Percy Pitt scored the Blues' only major in the first term. The home team was first out of the blocks in the second quarter and added three goals in quick time, Rupe Bradley snapped two and a long shot by Jim Flynn. Geelong hit back with a goal from a 60 yard place kick by Woods which bought applause from all spectators. The visitors attacked for all but the first five minutes of the quarter but could not find the opening. Strong winds and heavy rain squalls hampered the game after half time. This took Geelong's high marking out of the game, allowing Carlton's little men with clever passing to dominate. Geelong only once got the ball into their forward line where they goaled. Carlton didn't make the most of most of their chances in the third term with ten shots producing just 3.7 Heavy rain fell in the final quarter. The game developed in to a scramble with players chasing a very heavy ball. Carlton's all round strength and skill won out in the end.
For the second week in a row, Frank Hince starred at full-back for the Blues, who should have won by more, after kicking 4.11 in the second half.
