Future Premiership star Frank 'Silver' Caine wore navy blue on to the field for the first time in this match against St Kilda at the Junction Oval, and enjoyed a big win over the perennial cellar dwellars (well, perennial in a pre-National Draft sense).In other matches, Fitzroy remained unbeaten with a good win over South Melbourne, and Collingwood defeated Essendon at East Melbourne. Those results strengthened the Blues' hold on third spot, by establishing a two-win buffer over the two losing sides. The top four was now Fitzroy, Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon, with South Melbourne outside the four on percentage.
