Game Review
In their best win of the season thus far, a committed Carlton displaced Essendon from the top four with this 16-point victory at Windy Hill. The Blues led for most of the game.Popular ruckman Ken Greenwood went to centre half-forward to provide a viable avenue to goal for the Blues, and each of his three goals lifted his side at important moments in the match.
Ron Barassi moved himself to the half forward line for the final quarter. It was a decisive move as Barass had a hand in all three last term Carlton goals.
Essendon rued the inaccuracy of their forwards. The back line worked as one with all players doing their job. The Blues stuck to their task and worn down the highly fancied Dons over the course of the game.
Don's centre man Jack Clarke played well, however, so too did his inexperienced opponent Roger Hoggett.
After the game Carlton president George Harris said; "We have had a fine day for football, we have had pleasant company, and, above all, we have had a win." (Age May 31)
