There are no sporting or late editions of Saturday's Herald on Trove for this football season. Only first editions.

"The number of clubs competing for the prize this year is the same as last. Still, they are not the same. Essendon District have dropped out, whilist the Brunswick boys have gone up one - they being ranked now as seniors.

The vacancies have been filled by the Montague Juniors and Royal Crescent. The latter will represent Carlton."

1897: Royal Crescent/ Royal Park Crescent/RPC, was Carlton's junior team this season.

The Carlton Football Club's new ground in Princes Park (Carlton Recreation ground) was not opened until June 22.
Each week VJFA matches were played on the Carlton Cricket Ground. This, then would have been on the "Triangle" a small ground on Sydney Road, bounded by College Crescent and Cemetery Road West. This triangular area is now part of Melbourne University.
Perhaps this where the Royal Park Crescent club derived its name?
