John Thomas "Tom" Box recruited from Richmond in 1887.

1887 April 09
Box was named in the Carlton squad of 23 to play Fitzroy in the Bulli Charity match at Brunswick street.

1887 April 23
Box was named in the Carlton squad of 22 to play Elgin Union 23 on Princes Oval.
Carlton won.

1888 May 5
Box was named in the Carlton squad to play St.Kilda on the St.Kilda C.G.
Carlton won.

1888 May 12
Box was again named to play University the following week on the University C. G.
Carlton won.

Departed for North Melbourne in May 1888.

1926 The Frankston & Somerville Standard, May 21.
"The death occurred last week of a very well known resident, of Frankston, in the person of Mr. John Thomas Box, aged 57 years, at his residence 14 Epsom road Ascot Vale."
Mr. Box owned A. E. Tankard grain merchants.
"He was a good sportsman, and an old Carlton and North Melbourne player, late in 1888 and was a good supporter in cricket and racing. He was at one time the owner of such well-known horses as Prizefighter (who finished a dead heat in the Australian Cup with Saxonlite), Late Hours, Similarity, and other horses.
He was also the captain of the Frankston Football Club, and also captained a team which was known in those days as the Frankston Excelsiors."
