John Watts played reserve grade football for Carlton in 1981. The Tigers’ centre half-back during the late seventies and early 80s. Recruited from Woodend he had many tough assignments lining up on the key forwards for Eaglehawk, Sandhurst and Square back in the day. Perhaps his toughest task was to try and shut down the Hawks’ Gerard Geary, generally regarded as that era’s gun centre half-forward. Watts would win the Bendigo Competition best and fairest the Michelsen medal in 1980 whilst playing with Kyneton.
He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.
