Game Review

Carlton halted their slide, and scored one of their best wins of the season with this shock victory over the ladder-leaders Collingwood. Led by a dominant ruck division, the Blues stayed in front all day and revived their flagging hopes of making the finals.

This match proved the Magpies aren't the all-weather side they used to be. The strong combination of John Nicholls and Adrian Gallagher provided great drive for the Blues in their 11 point victory over arch-rivals Collingwood. Des Tuddenham did well for the Magpies. - Football Record.

Carlton's spare parts player, Ron Stone, isn't renowned for his kicking, but his snapshot in the final quarter against Collingwood couldn't have been bettered. It won the match. - Football Record.

Footnote

"Carlton has lost half back flanker John Lloyd for the rest of the season.
Lloyd suffered a fractured elbow when he landed heavily on it during the second quarter of Saturday's game against Collingwood.
Lloyd under went an operation on Saturday night and was discharged from hospital yesterday. His arm is in plaster.
Wingman Cliff Stewart yesterday had no recollection of having played in the match against Collingwood.
Stewart went down heavily in the first quarter and later suffered two more heavy knocks.
But Carlton expects Stewart to train on Thursday and play against Richmond." (The Age July 11 p18)
