The Jack Worrall era starts with great hope - but sadly another defeat, at home to the Cats.

Game Review

Revisit Rounds 01
In one of the most significant decisions in its history, the Carlton Football Club appointed former Fitzroy champion Jack Worrall as Secretary-Manager for 1902.

Therefore, this match; against Geelong at Princes Park on a Saturday afternoon in May of that year, was historic in that it marked the first time that a VFL team played under a paid and non-playing coach.

Carlton's first goal was kicked by Dick Hart from a free when he was scragged in the forward pocket.

Geelong proved far too good and won by six goals, but marked improvement wasn’t far away for the Navy Blues.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 51.3.
