Game Review
After the turmoil of the 2002 season, this game marked the debut of Coach Denis Pagan in Carlton colours. This game also signified the promising debuts of Jonathon McCormick, with a team high 19 possessions & 2 goals, Jarrad Waite and former Port Adelaide ruckman Barnaby French. This game would not be a replay of a pre-season game in which Carlton easily accounted for a Swans team jokingly referred to as their ‘Under 19’s’. After an even first quarter, the Swans had an 8 goal to 1 second quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Blues. Carlton made brief recoveries in the second half with McCormick, Scott Camporeale, Brendan Fevola & Justin Murphy each kicking 2 goals but were no match for the Swans, who continued to extend their lead to end up winning by 74 points.
The loss would continue a run of outs against Sydney in Sydney, with this being our 6th straight loss since 1994 in the Harbour City.
