Game Review

Buoyed by their impressive win over Melbourne in the previous round, Carlton took an unchanged line-up into this important clash against rival finals contenders St Kilda, and emerged with a gritty 3-point win at the Junction Oval.

As constant rain swept across the ground, the Blues overcame a poor first quarter again, and took a slim 9-point advantage into the last term. The Saints then mounted a challenge, but wayward shooting for goal cost them dearly, and the Blues just got home.

In other matches in this round, Hawthorn ended Essendon's unbeaten run with a good win at Glenferrie Oval, and Fitzroy beat a wildly-inaccurate Melbourne at Brunswick St. The top four order was now Essendon, Melbourne, Geelong and Footscray. Carlton was fifth, still trailing badly on percentage.
