The Alexandra and Yea Standard April 15 1949 (p3) reports "George Hopgood, of Preston, and formerly of Carlton Seconds, has been appointed coach of the Yea Football Club for 1949."

Most of the inner suburban VFL clubs had a baseball team which used to be the curtain raiser to the senior match. Over the years with the introduction of the U19 competition as the curtain raiser, most of these baseball clubs have had to find another venue. This season three baseball clubs still play on VFL grounds and their matches are now played before the VFL Reserve matches. Those three are Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne.
Of the other baseball clubs, Melbourne play at the Albert ground in St.Kilda Road, Collingwood at National Park in Kew, St.Kilda at Ross Gregory Reserve, Richmond at Heyington and Essendon at the Maribyrnong Recreation Reserve. The non VFL associated clubs Prahran still play at Toorak Park, and Brunswick on the Brunswick Football Ground.
