Not to be confused with his son Jimmy Goonan, who would play 22 games for Carlton from 1922 onwards, Jim Goonan played 2 games for the Blues in 1897, a year that was the birth of the Goonan days at Carlton in two respects: the debut of Jim in the seniors on 7th August 1897, and the birth of Jimmy six months earlier.
Goonan was born in Nth Melbourne, he passed away on the 25th July, 1950 aged 77.

Veterans Match
At Princes Park on Saturday 12 August 1933 at 2pm. the Club held a match played between Carlton veterans. Amongst the old players to nominate for the match was Jim Goonan.As well as the veterans match there was a match with representatives from the Young Chinese League, a women's match, 100 yards handicap race, and a long kicking competition.
10,000 people attended and in the evening the veterans were entertained in the pavilion.
