The Blues avenged their 20 point round 2 loss to the Gorillas in a rugged encounter at Brunswick St. Fitzroy were to tumble ignominiously from contention losing every match after leading the competition after Round 11. Scoring went in accordance with the wind advantage for the first 3 quarters before Carlton defied the conditions with a match-winning burst early in the last.
