Game Review
St Kilda's joy and relief at lifting themselves off the bottom of the ladder in round 13 lasted precisely one week. A ruthless Carlton smashed them by 50 points in this game at Princes Park, and Melbourne scored a shock win over Geelong to almost guarantee the hapless Saints to yet another wooden spoon. At the end of this round Carlton were in 3rd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 116.2.

Home & Away Review
By winning this game, Carlton would lock-down third position on the VFL ladder, two games ahead of Essendon. In the Sectional rounds, the Blues would play the 1st, 5th and 7th teams: Collingwood, South Melbourne and Melbourne. The ladder at this important time of the year is presented below:Team: | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points | For | Against | % |
Collingwood | 12 | 0 | 2 | 48 | 117.165.867 | 69.105.519 | 167.1 |
Fitzroy | 10 | 1 | 3 | 42 | 93.135.693 | 66.121.517 | 134.0 |
Carlton | 9 | 0 | 5 | 36 | 97.157.739 | 83.138.636 | 116.2 |
Essendon | 7 | 0 | 7 | 28 | 103.164.782 | 92.138.690 | 113.3 |
South Melbourne | 6 | 1 | 7 | 26 | 85.128.638 | 98.137.725 | 88.0 |
Geelong | 5 | 0 | 9 | 20 | 83.125.623 | 96.144.720 | 86.5 |
Melbourne | 3 | 0 | 11 | 12 | 84.127.631 | 102.152.764 | 82.6 |
St Kilda | 3 | 0 | 11 | 12 | 69.104.518 | 125.170.920 | 56.3 |
Interestingly, the only teams that would change positions on the ladder after the Sectionals were Melbourne and St Kilda, who would swap between 7th and 8th due to St Kilda's incredible thrashing of Geelong in round 17.
