Game Review
Carlton would travel the length of the nation to take on the West Coast, who were near the top of the ladder. In this night game at Subiaco, the Eagles would run and run and slot goals from everywhere, destroying the Blues. Two eight goal quarters from the Eagles, led by the fabulous future Blue Chris Judd, ended the game at half time. But it didn’t end there, with the Eagles netting 5 and 7 goal quarters to finish the game. The Blues were leaking in midfield and defence, with Phil Matera kicking 6 against a number of opponents and Embley getting the better of Beaumont.
Scott Camporeale had 30 possessions. Lance Whitnall had 22, took 14 marks and kicked 2 goals at half forward. Ryan Houlihan also tried hard and had 22 touches. Newcomer Laurence Angwin provided a few highlights with 2 goals scored through sheer ability.
The 116 point loss was the worst in its proud history. However it would unfortunately be eclipsed by an even greater loss at the end of the season.
