Game Review

A bumper crowd almost saw an upset by Carlton. Despite a massive 24 behinds from 31 shots at goal, Fitzroy only defeated the Blues by 2 points.

"Donoghue, on the half back line was their best player, and won a medal awarded to the most effective 1925 player in the side that afternoon. Carter, who secured the medal for the best "old" player on the side, also performed well against his old side. Other star performers were Watson (goal), Brew (half back), Bell, Irwin, and Outram. Beasy played well, but was below his form of the previous Saturday. Morrissey, who occupied the centre position had two fingers broken. Davies/Davis played at his best in the last quarter."
(Trove: Age September 14, p15)

The Blues finished 1925 in 9th spot with a percentage of 79.0, only ahead of the 3 'expansion' teams for 1925.
