Game Review

In a skilful, entertaining contest at Arden Street, both sides kicked six goals in the last quarter as Carlton edged out North Melbourne by 11 points.

Overall, fifth place on the ladder was a just outcome from another disappointing season for the Navy Blues.

Some consolation, the Argus said Carlton was the best team outside the top four. North were five goals down late in the final term, but they put on four quick goals and were trailing by just 4 points with five minutes to play. The Blues' defenders repelled another Northern thrust and Carlton managed to add a point to their total. Bill Milroy then marked as the siren sounded and added a goal for the Blues to win by 11 points.

The Blues' drive came from having a winning centre line with Ron Robertson giving a best on the ground performance. He was ably supported by his wingers, Laurie Kerr and Graham Gilchrist. Jack Howell was given close attention by North's backman Martyn which required the goal umpire's intervention. Defenders Doug Guy and Bruce Comben played well as did rovers Jack Mills and Jack Spencer.
