Game Review
Carlton made another five changes to the side, and burst from the barrier against Collingwood with three first-quarter majors. Unfortunately, that was the end of the "penny-section," and the Magpies overhauled us by half-time and went on to an easy 31-point win.Ex Geelong and Carlton debutant Dick Walker scored the first goal. A minute later he received a free kick and with a 60 yard kick passed the ball to Churchyard who goaled from a snap. Walker once again was involved when he got he got the ball to Wally Ocock. Wally was a paid a free kick and goaled. The Blues were attacking when the bell sounded to end the first term.
It was not a good game, and the umpire bought on himself the ire of that section of the crowd supporting Carlton by the frequency with which he penalised the dark blues for alleged breaches of the rules. So hostile did these critics become that the umpire dared not leave the dressingroom until 6 o'clock, by which time the more turbulant of them had taken their departure from the scene. The Carlton ground is gaining quite an unenviable distinction for disturbances. - The Age.
