Game Review

Carlton's defence was impregnable when the team snapped back into form and crushed the Shinboners by 9 goals at Princes Park. A welcome lift in percentage stabilised the Blues in sixth place on the ladder - still just one win away from the top four. Carlton's back line was on top with debutant Ken McKaige outstanding at full back. "His superb marking and kicking - he wore out two North full forwards - and never faltering courage and tenacity made him easily the best man afield."

The Age also mentioned, "Carlton also had sterling service from another youngster in Gerald Burke, who showed promise of being one of the finds of the year." The Blues were breaking down at centre half forward until Jack Howell replaced Bill Milroy in the key position. "Howell became a dominating force in the air, and co-operated cleverly in the fast play-on game used by the active rovers Mills and Chick."
