Game Review
The looming juggernaut Hawthorn destroyed Carlton in this Match of the Day at Princes Park. Ten goals in the first quarter, and six in the last underlined the Hawk's superiority. Their future champion full-back Chris Langford played forward and kicked four goals. Justin Madden, Wayne Johnston and Ken Hunter battled hard for the Blues, on a day when we were simply outgunned.Although Carlton clung to third place on the ladder after this round (thanks to Richmond's defeat of Collingwood) our percentage took a hit and our position all round was looking shaky. Hawthorn were one win clear on top, followed by Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood and Sydney - who climbed into the five when early-season front-runners Geelong were thumped by Essendon at Waverley.
The relentless Hawks crushed the Blues by a record 68 points after setting up the win with a 10 goal burst in the first quarter. John Kennedy kicked five goals for the victors and Russell Greene was named best with 18 kicks and eight handballs. David Glascott did well for Carlton, with 19 kicks. - Football Record.
