Hedge was a 200cm ruckman selected as a Rookie by the Blues in 2003 after impressing in the reserves in 2002. With his distinctive big ears, Hedge was good at the hit-outs but failed to make the most of his height around the ground. Hedge was not promoted to the Senior List and did not play a game for Carlton.

Hedge headed to South Australia for the 2004 season to play with SANFL club South Adelaide, he left at the end of the 2005 season. He would go back to his original junior club of Upwey Tecoma for the 2007 season.

He was originally recruited from Mitcham via Box Hill Hawks and Upwey-Tecoma.

2003 Inside Football Profile
The Blues saw enough in 200cm ruckman while he was playing for their VFL side to convince them he was worth selecting in the rookie draft. Has a good spring.
