Boasting one of the more impressive names in Carlton's history, McSpeerin would kick 2 goals in 2 games for Carlton after debuting in 1899. He was born in Carlton and recruited from Phoenix.

McSpeerin later played a single game for Melbourne in 1903.

After this McSpeerin captained the Collingwood cricket club. McSpeerin then moved to New Zealand and enlisted to serve in WWI, however hostilities finished before he could serve.
