Carlton welcomed Courtney Jones into the fold after selecting the speedy winger with pick No.59 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft. One of the best ball-users in the draft, Jones - who is renowned for her kicking and decision-making - showed her talent and class in 2019 playing for the Southern Saints.
In the round 3 loss to the Brisbane Lions Courtney kicked three of the Blues four goals in a very strong performance up forward for the Blues.
At the end of the 2022 season Jones requested for a trade back home to Queensland, she was traded from Carlton pick 49 in the upcoming NAB AFLW Draft.
In March 2023, Jones was traded to Richmond in a straight swap for Maddy Brancatisano. The reason for the trade was that Jones needed to return to Melbourne to be close to her younger sister who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January. Jones had replicated her career at the Suns with that when she was at Carlton by playing 9 games and kicking 8 goals.
