George's obituary said he first played for South Yarra then with Carlton from 1878.
1875 August 28
Bell was named in the Carlton Second Twenty squad to play St. Kilda at Royal Park. (same player?)
1876 July 01
Bell was named in the Carlton Second Twenty or Reserves 26 man squad to play Kilmore at Kilmore.
1876 The Footballer 1876 mentions that Bell was a good player in the Carlton Second Twenty.
1877 G. Bell plays dashingly, very strong, and a fair kick.

1878 May 11
Bell was named in the 24 man Carlton Reserves squad that played North Carlton in Royal Park.
1878 May 18
Bell was named in the 22 man Carlton Reserves squad that played Carlton United in Royal Park.
1878 November 23
At a sports meeting held on the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Footballer's Handicap was run with a triple dead heat with G. Bell (Carlton), J. Bell (Melbourne), and Sandilands (Melbourne).
A 440 yard run-off was held and G. Bell came third.

1924 September 2
The Argus (page 9) has a photo of former footballers with the Lord Mayor of Melbourne at a meeting to arrange an old players match to aid the Lord Mayor's Hospital Fund.
The two former Carlton players pictured, are George Bell and George Robertson who are seated front row, left to right, H.C. A. Harrison is next to Robertson.

1931 June: Death of George Bell aged 75 - Head Printer of The Argus
George worked for 60 years in the newspaper industry. Starting as an apprentice in 1871, he became head printer and later publisher of the Australasian and the Argus. He was one of the founders of the Historical Society of Victoria and he had a large personal collection of records and photographic material of early Victoria.
