Chief Executive Officer
Greg Swann served as CEO of the Carlton Football Club from March 2007 until June 2014. He resigned shortly after President Stephen Kernahan stood down, and was succeeded by Steven Trigg.
Steeped in football from an early age, Swann is the son of former Williamstown Secretary and President, Rex Swann. A fine footballer in his own right, Swann was a durable full-back during a long career in the VFA, and was one of the Seagulls’ best players in their heart-breaking 6-point loss to Sandringham in the 1985 Grand Final.
In 1995, Swann was elected President of Williamstown and became a hero of the club when he refused to buckle under heavy pressure from the VSFL, who wanted the Seagulls to merge with Werribee. Later, when Williamstown formed an alliance with Collingwood, Greg and Magpie President Eddie McGuire became close, leading to Swann’s appointment as CEO of the Pies in 1999.
Some eight years later, shortly before the 2007 AFL season began, Swann shocked Collingwood by resigning to take up the role of CEO at Carlton. In a second successful high profile head-hunting expedition by Dick Pratt's board, Swann joined the Blues at the same time as new Football Manager Steven Icke, who had been attracted across from the Fremantle Dockers.
Swann endured a turbulent eight seasons at Carlton under two Presidents; Dick Pratt and Stephen Kernahan. Midway through 2014 he decided to move on when Kernahan was succeeded by Mark LoGuidice, and a few weeks later was appointed CEO of the Brisbane Lions.
